Arantxa Sanchez Vicario staved off seven match points and defeated Yayuk Basuki of Indonesia in the semifinals of the Toyota Princess Cup to advance to the title match against Monica Seles.
Sanchez Vicario rallied to a 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 victory and her second consecutive championship meeting with Seles in this tournament. Top-seed Seles needed only 59 minutes for a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Naoko Sawamatsu, a local favorite.
