Alliance Forms To Oppose Oil Pipeline

Associated Press

Environmental groups and a barge company have formed a coalition to oppose a Seattle-to-Tri-Cities oil pipeline.

The Cascade Columbia Alliance includes the Sierra Club, Washington Environmental Council and Tidewater Barge Lines.

The alliance hopes to stop the 227-mile, $105 million pipeline proposed by Olympic Pipeline of Renton.

The alliance said the pipeline would hurt forests and rivers through which it would pass. Olympic Pipeline said it would be safer than continuing to move fuel to Eastern Washington by barge.
