College basketball standout Lester Earl has been accused by the NCAA of accepting $6,600 in cash from an LSU assistant coach before transferring to Kansas last year.

The NCAA also said coaches who are no longer at LSU improperly helped some of Earl’s relatives find jobs. LSU must now answer the NCAA’s accusations by April 16; school Chancellor William Jenkins said a committee is looking into them.

The investigation will have no bearing on Earl’s eligibility to play for the thirdranked Jayhawks and would affect his future only if it was proven he took the money while a student at LSU.

Central Florida football coach Gene McDowell has resigned after pleading guilty to lying to federal agents and a grand jury about how his players knew they were being investigated for cellular phone fraud.

McDowell tipped team captain Emory Green about an Oct. 28 raid of the Golden Knights’ locker room by federal agents, according to the plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court in Orlando.
