Two Charged In Theft Attempt

Sheriff’s deputies arrested two Spokane residents Sunday morning on charges of attempting to steal a pickup truck from a Valley repair shop.

Deputies arrested Mark T. Trees, 38, of W902-1/2 Dalton, and Kandi L. Olsson, 32, of 1611 S. Perry, for taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission.

A deputy arrived at Wayne’s Garage, 10423 E. Trent, after a citizen reported suspicious activity taking place there. He found two people pulling a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck down the street with their own S-10 pickup, according to police reports.

The suspects had put the truck’s front wheels into a car dolly and used a floor jack as wheels for the back of the truck, deputies said. The jack’s wheels were too small to drag the truck more than about 50 feet, deputies said.

Although the rear window had been broken out, the truck’s transmission had not been put in neutral to allow the rear wheels to turn, deputies said.
