Man killed at concrete plant

Associated Press

TACOMA – A concrete company employee was pulled beneath the wheels of a semitrailer and died, authorities said.

Kristopher Hedge, 26, of Tacoma, and a fellow worker employee at Concrete Technology Corp. were checking the semi’s rear steering cab after the rig arrived early Tuesday morning for a load of concrete girders, personnel manager Virginia Robinson said.

The truck from Redmond Heavy Hauling of Portland, Ore., was early, so workers asked the driver to move. When the rig began rolling, Hedges was pulled beneath the trailer wheels, officials said.

Police officer Mark Fulghum said he did not expect criminal charges to be filed. Officials at Redmond Heavy Hauling would not comment.
