ABBOTTSFORD, B.C.–Facing a 2-0 deficit Sunday afternoon, the Spokane Shadow reversed their fortunes with a spectacular finish against the Abbottsford Rangers, winning 3-2 in overtime.

The last two goals, both scored by University High’s Brett Hite, secured the Shadow’s second win of the season and helped the team advance toward a spot in the U.S. Open Cup.

In the second minute of overtime, Hite, off an assist from Kieran Barton, hit the net for the game winner. In the 78th minute, Hite had scored off a pass by Tim Seely. Hite, in his third season with the Shadow, was scoreless his first two seasons. That has changed dramatically, as he has three goals in two games, twice scoring the game-winner for the Shadow (2-0).

“Obviously, Brett has been playing well for us the first two games and things are looking up for the Shadow this season with his contributions,” Shadow coach Stuart Saunders said. “We were playing poorly in the first half, but that second half changed things for us.”

Paul Johnson scored first for the Shadow, in the 73rd minute off an assist by Seely.

The Shadow outshot the Rangers 12-5.
