UI’s Skidmore places second at Heather Farr

Runner-up Renee Skidmore led the Idaho women’s golf team to a tie for second place Tuesday at the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado.

Skidmore finished at even-par 144 for two rounds at the Omni Interlocker at Broomfield, Colo. Medalist Carmina Calle of San Jose State shot a 141.

Idaho carded a 606 to tie for second place with Colorado State, 19 shots behind San Jose State. Idaho’s Cassie Castleman shot 150 to tie for eighth.

Carlie Allen also shot 150 to lead Eastern Washington to seventh place among 14 teams. Mary Kate Morgan fired a 152 to tie for 13th and lead Gonzaga, the 13th-place team.

Whitworth trio earns honors

Football player Cameron Collings, men’s soccer player Niko Varlamos and women’s soccer player Jenn Miller were named Northwest Conference athletes of the week for Whitworth.

Collings, the special teams player of the week, kicked a career-best 53-yard field goal and finished 4 for 4 on PATs during the Pirates’ 31-28 win over Eastern Oregon on Saturday. He has made all three of his field goal attempts this season and 15 of 16 extra point attempts.

Varlamos was named offensive player of the week after totaling two goals and an assist in two matches over the weekend. He leads the Northwest Conference with 11 goals this season.

Miller, a goalkeeper, was selected defensive player of the week after making five saves and allowing one goal during a pair of weekend wins.
