Lack of signal leads to arrest

The Spokesman-Review

A 27-year-old man’s failure to signal a lane change led to his arrest on two warrants and a drug possession charge.

Richard J. Smith, 716 N. Long Road, was charged with possession of methamphetamine after a drug dog found a baggie of meth inside an air vent of the car he was driving, said Spokane Valley Police spokesman Cpl. Dave Reagan.

Smith was arrested on warrants for refusal to cooperate and possession of methamphetamine, police said.

Early Sunday, an officer was behind a vehicle on Sullivan when it failed to use a signal to change lanes, Reagan said. Officer Sarah Riojas stopped the vehicle and discovered the driver had a learner’s permit that expired in 1994 and the two warrants for his arrest.

Riojas called in another officer and his drug dog, Gordy, after she arrested Smith on the warrants.
