Red Sox 3, Devil Rays 1: At Boston, Tim Wakefield gave the Red Sox their third straight strong start to lead Boston to a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay.

Indians 2, Twins 1: At Cleveland, Travis Hafner was hit by a pitch from J.C. Romero (0-1) with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to force in the go-ahead run, and Cleveland rallied to beat Minnesota.

Rangers 6, Blue Jays 5: At Arlington, Texas, Hank Blalock and Michael Young each hit a two-run homer, and Chris Young had his first solid start of the season to lead Texas over Toronto.

Athletics 7, Angels 6: At Oakland, Calif., Marco Scutaro hit a two-run homer and Oakland finally got some offense in a victory over Los Angeles. Huston Street (1-0) pitched two strong innings for his first major league win.

Tigers 6, Royals 1: At Kansas City, Mo., Mike Maroth pitched into the eighth inning and Ivan Rodriguez had three hits, including a homer and a two-run double, to lead Detroit past Kansas City. Maroth (1-1) retired 12 of his first 13 batters and went 7 2/3 innings, allowing five hits.

National League

Nationals 7, Diamondbacks 3: At Washington, breaking out with a big seventh inning for the second game in a row, Washington extended its winning streak to five by completing a sweep of Arizona with a comeback victory.

Marlins 5, Mets 2: At New York, A.J. Burnett pitched a four-hitter for his second straight complete game as Florida ended New York’s six-game winning streak.

Reds 6, Astros 5: At Cincinnati, Wily Mo Pena hit a three-run homer so deep into the upper deck that it drew an extra standing ovation, then hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning to lead Cincinnati past Houston.

Cubs 4, Pirates 2: At Pittsburgh, Derrek Lee hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth and drove in three runs as Chicago defeated Pittsburgh.

Cardinals 3, Brewers 2: At Milwaukee, Scott Rolen had three hits and three RBIs, including a tiebreaking home run in the top of the ninth inning, to help St. Louis sweep the Brewers.

Giants 8, Rockies 6: At Denver, Michael Tucker hit his second grand slam against Colorado this season and drove in five runs to rally San Francisco.

Dodgers 6, Padres 0: At Los Angeles, Jeff Weaver pitched a five-hitter for his fourth career shutout, Jeff Kent and Milton Bradley hit back-to-back homers for the second time in three days, and Los Angeles swept San Diego.

Phillies 2, Braves 1 (10): At Philadelphia, Placido Polanco’s bases-loaded single capped Philadelphia’s two-run rally in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat Atlanta. Braves’ Mike Hampton and Phillies Brett Myers each pitched eight shutout innings.
