The following nonprofit organizations need volunteer help. If you’re interested, please contact them directly:

Adopt-a-Grandparent, Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene: Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis to “adopt” a resident of Life Care Center for visits and outings once or twice a week. Volunteers also needed to accompany groups of residents on shopping and other trips. Call Michelle, 762-1122.

Hometown Heroes: Do you have a special interest that you’d like to share with kids? Volunteers are needed for fall after-school programs to teach kids various hobbies and skills. Past volunteers taught kids to juggle, build birdhouses, make ice cream, design logos, etc. We’re open to suggestions. Thursdays, 4-5 p.m. Presently only at Post Falls Ponderosa Elementary, but want to expand to other elementary schools. Call Camy, 777-9086.

Post Falls Food Bank: 415 E. Third St., Post Falls. Volunteers are needed to help with fund-raising projects, stocking, office assistance, and food pickup/driver backup. Hours vary. Cathy, 773-0139.

CDA4Kids (Community Development Affiliates): Volunteers of all ages are needed for tutorials, services, and other activities after school this fall at Borah Elementary and Hayden Elementary. Patti, 699-5430.

Women’s Center: Volunteers needed to work in thrift store (pick up furniture, sort, stock, handle sales) and office (Web site maintenance, training/advice about computer software programs, printing/copying projects, filing/administrative projects). Also, volunteers needed to participate in crisis intervention, training provided. Survivors needed to tell their stories. Hours/days very flexible. 664-9303, Linda.
