USC hires former Idaho coach Floyd

The Spokesman-Review

LOS ANGELES – Tim Floyd is being hired as Southern California basketball coach, taking the job Rick Majerus accepted then abruptly quit last month.

A news conference to introduce Floyd is scheduled this afternoon.

The former Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Hornets coach will return to the college ranks, where he spent eight seasons at the University of New Orleans and four years at Iowa State. Floyd’s first head coaching assignment was at the University of Idaho (1986-88).

Floyd, 50, was fired as Hornets coach last May after they went 41-41 and lost in the first round of the playoffs in his only season.

USC fired Henry Bibby on Dec. 6. Assistant Jim Saia was promoted to interim head coach.
