Amy Sneddon prides herself on being a full-service stylist, from shampooing her clients’ hair to applying the last dab of product.

“I will never need an assistant,” said Sneddon, who runs her business at the Salon on Sixth, 213 W. Sixth Ave. “I never liked it when I used to get my hair done. People are taking customer service out of everything these days.”

Sneddon, 30, is one of four stylists who run separate businesses in the lower South Hill salon since Kelly Swenson opened the salon nearly two years ago. The shop was converted from a 1890s house and most recently was a medical supply store.

Before going solo, Sneddon trained at Glen Dow Academy of Hair Design and worked at Mosaic Salon and Spa for one year. She said styling hair was a perfect career decision.

“I get to go to work every day, talk to people, hang out with people, and get to play with hair. I love it,” Sneddon said.

Peking Garden back in full bloom

It’s been 10 weeks since Peking Garden, 3420 E. Sprague Ave., has been back in business since fire destroyed the restaurant in February 2004. Ruth Lo, who co-owns the Chinese restaurant with husband, George, said the place has been rebuilt, customers are back and everything is going great.

Aside from standard favorites, Lo said, the 31-year-old family restaurant, one of the first in Spokane to specialize in Mandarin food, has spruced up the menu and modernized the dining room and lounge.

Low-carb dishes have been added to the menu.

The dining room is nonsmoking and seats 65 customers. The lounge seats 55 and has a 65-inch television set.
