The Spokesman-Review

Let’s work together for common goals

We have lived in the Valley for many years. My wife and I plan to retire here. As interested parties, we would just like to share a few thoughts concerning the incorporation of the Spokane Valley.

The proponents for disincorporation offer no solutions. Perhaps they should show us their vision instead of looking backward and reflecting on the “good-old days.”

The time to take action to incorporate was right. Given the revenue problems and the needs of the city, Spokane would have chosen to annex the Valley at some future date.

In our opinion, our Valley City Council in a very short time has examined multiple solutions to problems. They keep looking for ways to do things better and more economically.

We all want the same things, to feel safe in our community, economic stability, attractive surroundings and a voice in our future. It makes more sense to spend our tax dollars and energy in efforts toward meeting those shared goals rather than arguing over incorporation or disincorporation.

Please, since we are all in the same boat, can we all row in the same direction? All sides of the incorporation issue can bring expertise, wisdom and energy to the table to achieve our common goals.
