Andrew Parrott’s 3-over-par 74 earned him medalist honors and led Whitworth to an eight-stroke victory in the NCAA Division III Pacific Invitational men’s golf tournament Monday in a weather-shortened 18-hole event at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course in North Plains, Ore.

The Pirates, who compiled a team total of 313 to best runner-up Pacific Lutheran (321) in the eight-team field, had three players in the top six. Pirates Joe Finley and Mike Van Wingerden shared fifth at 79.

Women’s golf

Gonzaga players went 1-2-3, led by Mary Kate Morgan’s 6-over-par 78, to lead the Bulldogs to a 44-stroke victory over Community Colleges of Spokane and Whitworth in the Spokane Cup at Hangman Valley.

Lacey Jo Manwaring shot 83 and Sarah Sheffield 85 for the Bulldogs, who had a team score of 337.

CCS, led by Megan Bruce’s 87, was second at 381. Whitworth, led by Kelli Parker’s 87, had a 414.

Baseball

It may have just been an exhibition, but there was more good news for Washington State than the score in a 5-1 victory over the University of British Columbia at Bailey-Brayton Field in Pullman.

Bradley Selinger, in his first outing since undergoing surgery, threw 80 pitches and allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings on five hits.

Kaeo Rubin went 3 for 4 for the Cougars (15-13) with two singles and a double in the game that doesn’t count in WSU’s record or individual statistics. Records and stats do count for UBC, which is 15-9-1.
