Bulldogs bully Bobcats

Freshman Heather Bowman scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Gonzaga to an 81-53 non-conference win over visiting Montana State in a women’s basketball game Saturday.

Stephanie Hawk and Simone Santos each added 10 points for the Bulldogs (8-8), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Gonzaga’s steady defense held the Bobcats to 18-of-54 shooting from the field.

The Bulldogs outscored Montana State 30-12 in the final 11 minutes to earn the lopsided win.

Nubia Garcia scored 12 points and Alyssa Nelson added 10 to lead Montana State (5-7).

GU opens West Coast Conference play Friday at Loyola Marymount.

“Emily Wittkopf scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds, helping CC Spokane edge the CCS All-Stars 57-54 in a non-conference game at Spokane CC.

Sarah Scates added 11 points for the Sasquatch, who held the All-Stars to just 31.6 percent shooting from the field.

CCS shot 14 of 28 from the floor in the second half and outscored the All-Stars 33-23, erasing a seven-point halftime deficit.

Katie Rodgers scored 24 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the All-Stars.

A.J. Zelinski added 16 points for the All-Stars.

“Susan McDaniel scored 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Whitworth topped Wisconsin-Lutheran 74-56 at the Whit Classic II Tournament at the Sherwood Center in Walla Walla.

The Pirates jumped in front 18-9 in the game’s first 6 minutes and built a 34-27 halftime lead.

Alida Bower and Teresa Zeitler added 14 points apiece for Whitworth (7-3), which held Wisconsin-Lutheran to 34 percent shooting from the field.

Cassie Snyder dished out a team-high five assists for the Pirates.

The Pirates made 21 of their 27 free-throw attempts and outrebounded Wisconsin-Lutheran 41-33. Emily Laete scored 15 points and Kristen Dillon added 10 points to lead Wisconsin-Lutheran (6-4).

Men’s basketball

Nick Livi, Scott Stockwell and Jamaal Rolle scored 14 points apiece, guiding North Idaho to a 76-69 non-conference victory over Highline CC at Coeur d’Alene.

Shawn Henderson added 13 points and four assists for the Cardinals (9-3), who shot 55.6 percent from the floor.

Zach Bruce scored 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to lead Highline (7-2), which outrebounded North Idaho 31-23.

Matt Mgebroff added 12 points for Highline.
