Kootenai County plans cable TV shows

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Kootenai County residents will gain a better understanding of how the property assessment process works starting Saturday at 11 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on cable television.

“County Connections,” a new, 30-minute talk show authorized by county commissioners, premieres over the weekend on Channel 19 and Monday at 6 p.m. on Channel 13.

County Assessor Mike McDowell and Chief Deputy Assessor Rich Houser will explain each item on assessment notices, how property is appraised, why the county’s assessed value jumped, how assessments are reached and more in the first show, “I’ve Been Assessed!”

That episode will run through July on Channel 19 at 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and at 11 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The show will rotate throughout the summer on cable Channel 13 with “County Connections” shows on the county budget and the comprehensive plan. Channel 13 has scheduled episodes Mondays at 6 p.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Channel 13’s schedule is posted at www.postfallsidaho.org.

Channel 19 will air the budget show “Paying the Bills,” with county Finance Director Dave McDowell and Solid Waste Department Director Roger Saterfiel, in August. McDowell will explain how the county sets its budget, what the money pays for, what services are mandatory and where the money comes from.

Channel 19 will air the comprehensive plan show, “Planning Ahead,” with Commissioner Katie Brodie and county planners Cheri Howell and Mark Mussman in September. The trio will explain what a comprehensive plan is, why it needs updating and how the public can participate in the process.

Channel 19’s schedule is posted on www.coeurdaleneidaho.org.
