Pullman, Colville advance to state tournament

Grethe Vogel had 10 kills, six aces and four blocks to lead Pullman past Riverside 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 in the championship game of the District 7 2A tournament at Cheney High School.

The Greyhounds will advance to the state tournament at the Yakima SunDome as the No. 1 seed. Kayla Newberg led the Rams with 18 kills and five blocks.

In other playoff action, Colville beat West Valley 25-19, 25-23, 25-16 to set up a match with Riverside to determine who would advance to state as the No. 2 seed. The Rams won 25-27, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13 behind Newberg’s 40 kills, three aces and three blocks.

Colville and West Valley are finished for the season.

“Southridge beat Mt. Spokane 27-25, 10-25, 25-22, 17-25, 16-14 in a 3A regional tournament game in Kennewick and ended the Wildcats season. Mt. Spokane had a chance to advance to the state tournament as the No. 1 seed but lost to Hanford earlier in the day. The Wildcats would have been the second seed by defeating Southridge. … In other playoff action, Southridge ended North Central’s season with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-14 decision in a loser-out game.

Traci Linstrum had 23 kills and three aces and Mallory Mielke added 36 assists as Davenport topped Wilbur-Creston 25-20, 21-25, 26-24, 25-15 in the championship game of the District 7/9 2B tournament at Reardan High School. Ashley Warnecke had 22 kills to lead the Wildcats. The Gorillas advance to the state tournament as the No. 1 seed. Wilbur-Creston is No. 2. … In other playoff action, Hailee Cole had 20 kills and 18 digs to guide DeSales past Lind-Ritzville 16-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-14. The Irish are the No. 3 team entering the state tournament and the Broncos are No. 4. … Reardan and St. George’s had opportunities to advance to the state tournament but lost loser-out games to DeSales and Lind-Ritzville, respectively.

“Tekoa-Oakesdale beat Sprague-Harrington 20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 18-16 in the championship game of the District 9 1B tournament at Colfax High School and will advance to the state tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Falcons are No. 2. … LaCrosse-Washtucna topped Rosalia 26-24, 25-10, 25-20 and is the third seed advancing to state. Rosalia is the fourth seed. Touchet and Liberty Christian lost loser-out matches earlier in the day and are finished for the season.

Amanda Grumbach had 21 kills and Kady Kirkendall added 23 assists as Curlew beat Inchelium 25-16, 28-26, 25-17 in the championship game of the District 7 1B tournament at Northwest Christian High School. The Cougars advance to the state tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Hornets are No. 2. … In other playoff action, Kaprina Goodwin had game highs of 30 kills and 14 blocks to lead Northport past Odessa 26-28, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 20-18. Alexia Bruya had 17 kills and six aces and Taylor Walter added 20 assists to lead the Tigers. Northport’s Mustangs advance to the state tournament as the No. 3 seed, while Odessa’s season is finished. … Cusick and Almira/Coulee-Hartline were eliminated from postseason competition after losing loser-out games to Northport and Odessa, respectively, earlier in the day.
