Padres 10, Diamondbacks 5: At Phoenix, Randy Johnson returned to the Arizona lineup, looked his age and was outpitched by another 43-year-old. David Wells got the victory in the oldest matchup of left-handers in major league history, leading San Diego over Arizona.

Giants 5, Dodgers 3: At Los Angeles, Matt Morris pitched into the eighth inning and Dave Roberts homered to lead San Francisco over the Dodgers.

Pirates 3, Astros 0: At Pittsburgh, Paul Maholm allowed three singles in his first career complete game and the Pirates beat Houston.
