NHL: Oilers snap Red Wings’ win streak

Ales Hemsky scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-3 win over Detroit on Thursday night at Detroit, snapping the Red Wings’ seven-game winning streak.

It was the NHL-leading Red Wings’ second seven-game winning streak of the season.

Sharks 5, Canucks 2: At San Jose, Calif., Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist, Evgeni Nabokov made 15 saves and the Sharks beat Vancouver for their sixth victory in seven games.

Senators 4, Penguins 1: At Pittsburgh, Dany Heatley scored two goals for the second night in a row and Jason Spezza also scored twice as Ottawa wrapped up a productive road trip, winning its fourth in a row by beating the Penguins.

Devils 3, Bruins 1: At Boston, Jamie Langenbrunner scored two goals to lift New Jersey to a win over the Bruins in a game played in front of about only 1,500 people because of a major snowstorm.

Canadiens 4, Flyers 1: At Philadelphia, Mark Streit scored two goals and rookie goalie Carey Price made 29 saves in Montreal’s victory over the Flyers.

Avalanche 2, Predators 1: At Nashville, Tenn., Ryan Smyth and Ian Laperriere scored third-period goals to lift Colorado to a win over the Predators.

Flames 9, Lightning 6: At Tampa, Fla., Jarome Iginla and Kristian Huselius had three goals each as Calgary beat Tampa Bay.

Stars 4, Kings 1: At Dallas, Mike Ribeiro had two goals and two assists and the Stars maintained their dominance over Los Angeles.

Panthers 1, Blues 0: At St. Louis, Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun stopped 33 shots and recorded his 24th career shutout and the Panthers earned a victory over the Blues.

Islanders 3, Coyotes 2: At Uniondale, N.Y., Bill Guerin snapped a scoreless tie in the second period and added a goal in the third to lift New York to a victory over Phoenix.

The Philadelphia Flyers signed scoring leader Mike Richards to a 12-year contract extension. The Canadian Press reported the deal was for $69 million. … Carolina Hurricanes forward Scott Walker was suspended for one game for head-butting Ottawa’s Mike Fisher during a fight Wednesday. … Buffalo Sabres defenseman Teppo Numminen skated with his teammates for the first time since open heart surgery three months ago.
