The Spokesman-Review

A gun battle between two cars broke out Thursday night on Heroy Avenue between Helena and Pittsburg streets, popping a parked car’s tire but apparently not injuring anybody, a Spokane police spokeswoman said.

Police responded about 8:45 p.m. to calls of two people shooting at each other, Officer Theresa Fuller said. Police were on the lookout for a black four-door Dodge Intrepid with temporary tags and a dark-blue four-door Nissan Ultima with a rear fin.

Body of kidnapped 12-year-old found

Information provided by a man in custody on an immigration complaint has led police and the FBI to the body of a 12-year-old girl snatched from the alley behind her home during July Fourth fireworks, Police Chief Don Ramsdell said Thursday night.

In a short statement, Ramsdell said the body of Zina Linnik was found Thursday at an undisclosed location in Pierce County.

Ramsdell did not identify the man who provided the information.
