Devil Rays 5, Blue Jays 4 (11): At St. Petersburg, Fla., Carl Crawford, who scored the tying run as a pinch runner in the ninth inning, led off the bottom of the 11th with a homer to give Tampa Bay the victory over Toronto. Crawford, who was out of the starting lineup for three games with a sprained right wrist, hit a 3-2 pitch from Brian Wolfe over the fence in center field for the Devil Rays, who had lost eight of nine. Scott Dohmannn worked out of a bases loaded, one-out jam in the 11th for the win.

Twins 3, Royals 1: At Minneapolis, Scott Baker sparkled over eight crisp innings and Joe Mauer drove in three runs to lead Minnesota to a win over Kansas City. Baker faced one batter over the minimum, struck out seven and allowed two hits, both in the fourth inning. Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth for his 23rd save in 25 opportunities.

Tigers 5, Athletics 2: At Oakland, Calif., Curtis Granderson and Placido Polanco both had three hits and an RBI as Detroit snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory over the Athletics. Jordan Tata, brought up to take the injured Kenny Rogers’ spot in Detroit’s rotation, allowed two runs and six hits over seven innings in his first major league start to get the win. He walked two and struck out five. Chad Durbin pitched the eighth and Todd Jones worked the ninth for his 28th save in 33 chances.
