Katie Smith scored 23 points and Cheryl Ford added 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the Detroit Shock beat the Connecticut Sun 79-74 Sunday in Uncasville, Conn., to remain the WNBA’s only unbeaten team.

The 6-0 start is Detroit’s best in franchise history and extends the Shock’s winning streak to eight games dating to last season’s WNBA Finals.

Asjha Jones scored 20 points and Lindsay Whalen 19 to lead Connecticut.

Fever 80, Liberty 61: At Indianapolis, Tammy Sutton-Brown tied career highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead Indiana to a victory over New York.

Tamika Whitmore added 22 points and six rebounds for the Fever, which avenged their only loss.

Sutton-Brown and Whitmore made up for an off night by Tamika Catchings. The league’s No. 4 scorer was held to 14 points on 5-for-15 shooting.
