The Washington State defense had a big day at practice Tuesday, and that included the scout team.

Cornerback Tyree Williams intercepted a pass for the defensive scout group off a deflection, leading to a small celebration at the starting offense’s expense.

Over with the No. 1 defense, backup linebacker Hallston Higgins earned a lot of helmet snaps with a fumble recovery, then corner Devin Giles ended practice with an athletic interception.

The flu, or flu-like symptoms, is rearing its head. Defensive tackle Aaron Johnson missed practice and had to be given IVs after suffering the effects. No one else has been affected.

Safety Alfonso Jackson returned to practice with no restrictions after being out for two weeks with a concussion. Running back Chris Ivory, expected to be back, wasn’t at practice.

Stanford wide receiver Richard Sherman was suspended for Saturday’s game because of what was termed poor sportsmanship against Washington. According to the Associated Press, Sherman, the team’s leading receiver, was seen screaming at teammates after receiving a personal foul penalty.
