Blue Jays 5, Tigers 3: At Toronto, David Eckstein hit a three-run homer, supplying some of the power the Blue Jays might miss without just-released Frank Thomas, in a win over Detroit. The Tigers have dropped two straight after winning four of five.

Red Sox 6, Rangers 5: At Boston, Sean Casey’s bases-loaded walk capped a four-run eighth inning and the Rex Sox pulled off another late rally, beating Texas after Manny Ramirez was ejected in the second inning. Tim Wakefield (2-0) allowed five runs on seven hits, struck out five and didn’t walk a batter in eight innings. Boston won for the eighth time in nine games.

Yankees 7, Orioles 1: A win for New York in Baltimore was tarnished by the loss of Alex Rodriguez, who hit an RBI double and scored before leaving in the sixth inning with a leg injury. The Yankees ended a three-game losing streak. Andy Pettitte pitched seven scoreless innings, Johnny Damon homered and Derek Jeter had a three-run double.

White Sox 6, Rays 0: Jim Thome hit career homer No. 512 and drove in three runs, John Danks struck out eight in seven innings and the Chicago beat Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla. Thome also tied a career high with four hits. His homer tied him with Hall of Famers Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews for 19th place on the all-time list.

Twins 2, Indians 1 (10): After striking out with a runner on second in the eighth inning, Justin Morneau singled home Brendan Harris in the 10th, lifting Minnesota over Cleveland in Minneapolis.

Athletics 7, Royals 1: At Oakland, Calif., Jack Hannahan’s two-run double highlighted a five-run fourth inning, Dana Eveland won for the first time in three starts and the Athletics completed a three-game sweep of Kansas City.
