Melvin Jones led four players in double figures with 19 points and the North Idaho men’s basketball team edged Yavapai 74-72 at the College of Southern Idaho tournament Thursday in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Humberto Perez had 15 points, Steve Wesley chipped in 11 and David Johnson added 10 for the Cardinals, who led 46-38 at the half.

Louis Barraza tallied a game-high 21 points to lead the Roughriders.

The Cardinals improved to 12-1 while Yavapai fell to 6-6.

NIC will play Harmony today in second-round action.
