Left fielder Logan Boyd had a grand slam to help the Spokane RiverHawks hold off the Wenatchee Apple Sox and earn a 7-6 West Coast Collegiate Baseball League victory Monday night at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Baseball Complex.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Boyd took one deep to left center field to give the RiverHawks an insurmountable 7-1 lead.

The RiverHawks (9-11) have won three consecutive games, completing a three-game sweep of East Division leader Wenatchee (14-6).

Track and field

University of Idaho assistant coach Angela Whyte, a 2003 Idaho graduate, finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the Canadian Trials over the weekend. Her time of 12.96 seconds met the qualification standard, giving her a spot in her third consecutive Olympic Games. She finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles four years ago at Athens.

Whyte is one of two former Vandals to qualify for Beijing. The other is Joachim Olsen, who will represent Denmark in the shot put. •Idaho’s Matt Wauters has been chosen to represent the U.S. at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships in the hammer throw July 18-23. Only two representatives are chosen from each country per event.

Golf

Amy Eneroth of Colbert shot 75 on Monday and is tied for sixth place after the first round of the PNGA Women’s Amateur at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland.

No local players were in the top 40 of the men’s event, played at BanBury Golf Club in Eagle, Idaho.
