Signed After cycling through seven shortstops since the middle of the 2004 season, the Boston Red Sox announced they have given Marco Scutaro a two-year deal with a club option for 2012. Scutaro hit career highs with a .282 average, 12 homers and 60 RBIs for Toronto last year.

•Catcher Gregg Zaun and the Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a $2.15 million, one-year contract. The 38-year-old split last season with Baltimore and Tampa Bay.

Declined Right-hander Brad Penny and infielder Juan Uribe have turned down one-year contract offers to return to the San Francisco Giants.

Fined Houston Texans defensive end Antonio Smith was fined $12,500 for a hit on Indianapolis tight end Dallas Clark. Smith hit Clark away from the play on an interception return.

•New York Jets safety Kerry Rhodes has been fined $5,000 by the NFL for throwing a ball into the stands following an interception against the Carolina Panthers.

Charged Police investigating the stabbing death of University of Connecticut football player Jasper Howard have arrested two more people in the case. UConn police charged Rahim Muhammad, 22, of Bloomfield, Conn., with hindering prosecution, tampering with evidence and interfering with police. Hadiyah Vanover, 22, of Windsor, Conn., has been charged with tampering with a witness and interfering with police.

Suspended Georgia defensive end Montez Robinson was suspended indefinitely from the team following his arrest Thursday on charges involving two altercations with a female student. Robinson, 19, was released from the Athens-Clarke County jail on $2,000 bond Friday afternoon after being charged.

Pleaded A former University of Kentucky men’s basketball player has pleaded not guilty to running a ticket scam that prosecutors say totaled more than $70,000. The charges allege that Ed Davender of Georgetown, Ky., unlawfully obtained money from 19 people between May 2003 and August 2009.

Declared Kansas wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe will forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft. Briscoe finished his three-year career as Kansas’ all-time leader with 3,240 yards receiving and 31 touchdown receptions.
