Mead takes meet

Balance helped the Mead Panthers cruise past four teams in a Greater Spokane League gymnastics meet Thursday at Lewis and Clark.

The Panthers scored 157.3 points to hold off second-place Shadle Park (145.25) and third-place Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls), which scored 141.825.

Mead didn’t win any individual events and was topped by Katie Pratt, who placed fourth in the all-around with 33.3 points. Pratt took second on the balance beam (9.05).

Shadle’s Alana Norman won the uneven bars (8.25) and the floor exercise (9.45) on the way to the all-around title (35.15). Lakeside’s Devina Carr won the beam (9.1) and vault (9.05) and placed second in the all-around (35.0).

Basketball

Erin Hiatt scored 14 points and host Bonners Ferry (4-1) took its first lead midway through the third quarter and held off the Coeur d’Alene junior varsity 50-44 in non-league play. The Vikings jumped ahead 11-1. … Cassie Thompson scored 21 points to lead Timberlake (8-0) to a 60-13 win over visiting Wallace (3-7) at Spirit Lake.
