Spokane County commissioners are looking for someone to fill a nonvoting citizen position on a growth-management advisory committee.

The county Growth Management Steering Committee of Elected Officials gives commissioners advice on the “urban growth areas” required by the state Growth Management Act. The citizen member is nominated by commissioners and ratified by the local officials on the committee.

The citizen member, who is appointed to a four-year term, is required to live in a Spokane County city or urban growth area.

The committee meets at 10 a.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, at the Spokane Transit Authority board room, 1230 W. Boone Ave.

Nine Mile Falls

Grant awarded to Lakeside

Students at Lakeside High School Nine Mile Falls will be awarded a $5,000 grant check from State Farm Insurance agent Greg Fosse today, to fund their safe driving project, “Shift into Reality: The Truth about Safe Teen Driving.”

The funds will allow Lakeside students the funds for safe driving education tools, such as mock crashes, videos and school assemblies.

The winning projects focused on issues such as texting while driving, seat belts, passengers, driving impaired, and speeding.

Day of pampering benefits animals

SCRAPS and the Spokane Humane Society are coming together to offer a full day of pampering to the women in the Spokane community, where they are sure to be “Feline Groovy,” on Saturday. It doesn’t hurt that it benefits the animals at the shelters, either.

The day of indulgences includes brunch at Old European Breakfast House, massages at the BrickHouse Massage and Coffee Bar, and high tea at Brambleberry Cottage and Tea Shoppe. Chocolate tasting at the Chocolate Apothecary will follow high tea, and cocktails and appetizers at Envy Tapas Lounge will end the day.

Tickets are $125 per person and all proceeds benefit SCRAPS and the Spokane Humane Society.
