In late November, the city’s pool overhaul was a little bit ahead of schedule because of the balmy fall weather. Then winter hit.

Construction crews spent a huge amount of time clearing snow and runoff from the fast melt, yet despite their efforts all six pool projects are behind schedule.

The Spokane Parks and Recreation Department issued this update on the pool construction earlier this week:

•Shadle Pool. Crews are ready to install rebar and restart forming the pool from the base slab this week.

•A.M. Cannon Pool. Crews have installed the foundation for the new building.

•Comstock. Crews are working on clearing access to the mechanical building so they can bring in equipment needed to continue the project.

•Hillyard. Crews have put in the foundation for the building expansion and installed warming blankets to keep the temperature stable and the site dry.

•Liberty. Crews are clearing snow and have installed warming blankets here, too.

•Witter. Crews are clearing snow and installing warming blankets to protect the new construction.

Pool piping, plumbing and surge tank work is also under way at Shadle, A.M. Cannon and Hillyard pools.

According to the statement from Spokane Parks and Recreation Department measures to get back on schedule will be evaluated on an ongoing basis. The plan is for all six pools to be open by the end of July.
