Two robbery suspects were arrested Wednesday night by Spokane police after officers used a police dog to locate one of the suspects near Driscoll Boulevard in northwest Spokane.

The holdup victim, 17, reported the incident to his father, who quickly went into action to prevent the robbers from getting away, police said. A neighbor called police.

The boy said he was at Greenwood Boulevard and Olympic Place when two teens confronted him about 9 p.m. They took his wallet and shoes at gunpoint, police said.

After the robbery, the boy’s father searched the neighborhood and found one of the suspects at the nearby Driscoll One Stop, 4203 N. Driscoll Blvd., police said.

A store clerk told officers that he saw two people matching the description of the robbers a few minutes earlier. A pellet gun believed used in the robbery was found hidden behind the store.

K-9 Officer Craig Hamilton and his dog, Leonitis, followed a track to the second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, several blocks away. The teen, who police said was wearing the victim’s shoes, was booked into the county juvenile detention center. The other suspect, Patrick A. Wardell, 18, was booked into Spokane County Jail on a robbery charge.
