Johjima returns

Associated Press

SEATTLE – Kenji Johjima went right from the disabled list to behind the plate.

Seattle’s catcher was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday and was back in the Mariners lineup against Oakland, batting seventh.

It was his first game since April 15.

To make room for Johjima, the Mariners designated veteran catcher Jamie Burke for assignment. Burke played in four games and would likely be headed for Triple-A Tacoma if he clears waivers.

Seattle also recalled left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas from Tacoma to replace reliever Roy Corcoran, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained neck. Vargas gives the Mariners a southpaw in the bullpen for the first time this season.
