The last full day of summer started out more like autumn as early morning lows dipped into the 30s at many locations with some freezing temperatures recorded around the region. The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning for northeast Washington and North Idaho overnight through 9 a.m. and a frost warning for western Montana, and their predictions held up in the typically colder locations such as Deer Park, Cheney and Sandpoint. One reader reported frost on his windshield in the Nine Mile area this morning. Temperatures are expected to rebound this week with lots of sunshine under an intensifying mass of higher air pressure. Highs should go from today’s lower and middle 70s to the upper 80s and lower 90s by Wednesday. Today, highs are forecast at 75 in downtown Spokane and Coeur d’Alene and 74 in Spokane Valley and Post Falls. Winds should be light with a picture-perfect September day. Lows should reach the lower 40s tonight. Fair weather is predicted to continue through this weekend with highs mostly in the 80s after Wednesday. Autumn begins at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday. At 7 a.m., temperatures were 42 at Spokane International Airport, 39 at Felts Field, 41 in Coeur d’Alene, 32 in Sandpoint, 30 in Newport, 27 in Deer Park and 45 in Pullman.
