Lowland lakes in Washington are expected to be busy this weekend with the opening of trout fishing season on Saturday, and Spokane sheriff’s deputies said they will be on patrol for boating violations. The state has planted more than 20 million trout in lakes and streams. Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan said deputies and game agents will be watching for violations, including boating safety regulations. He said that citations will be issued for boaters who fail to carry life vests for each occupant in the boat. Children younger than 13 are required to wear a life vest “while under way,” meaning when not docked, anchored or beached, he said. New this year for trout season is the legal use of two fishing poles under a special two-pole endorsement that can be purchased with a state license for $24 for ages 16 to 69 and $6 for ages 70 and older.
