City will recycle Christmas trees

Undecorated Christmas trees will be picked up, chipped up and composted if Spokane residents put them out on garbage day. Trees must be smaller than 6 feet tall or cut in half and set alongside trash cans, said Marlene Feist, city of Spokane spokeswoman. Garbage pickup and curbside recycling are on a normal schedule through New Year’s Eve. People can also take trees to the Waste-to-Energy Plant, 2900 S. Geiger Blvd.; Spokane Valley Transfer Station, 3941 N. Sullivan Road; or the North Side Transfer Station, 22123 Elk-Chattaroy Road. “Trees taken to these facilities are subject to a $5 minimum charge for clean green disposal; they will be composted,” Feist said. For information about curbside pickup, call (509) 625-7878. For information about dropping trees off, call (509) 625-6800.
