The University of Idaho women’s basketball team took an 18-point lead on its way to a 74-59 Western Athletic Conference win over San Jose State at Moscow.

The Vandals are 8-18, 6-7. The Spartans dropped to 6-21 and 2-12.

Sophomore Shaena Kuehu had a team-best 16 points to go with five rebounds, four steals and a career-high six assists. Senior Rachele Kloke accounted for 15 points.

•Meghan Eisenmann scored 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting, but the CC Spokane Sasquatch (16-9, 8-6 NWAACC) lost on the road to Yakima Valley 75-63. Yakima is 21-5 and 13-1.

Men’s basketball

Zack Humphrey scored 26 points and Griffon Jones 23 as the CC Spokane Sasquatch outscored host Yakima Valley 95-88. The Sasquatch (21-5 overall) improved to 11-3 in the East Division of the NWAACC.

Football

Former NFL receiver Al Pupunu has been hired as the tight ends coach at the University of Idaho.

Pupunu, who coached at Southern Utah the last two seasons, spent nine seasons in the NFL, seven with the San Diego Chargers.

He played college at Weber State when Idaho coach Robb Akey was on the Wildcats staff. At Weber, he led Division I-AA in receptions with 93 in 1991.

Track and field

Senior Nicole Luckenbach of Eastern Washington was selected as the Big Sky Conference Field Athlete of the Week after setting a school record in the weight throw at 61 feet, 113/4 inches at the Vandal Collegiate meet Saturday.
