Sheriff’s Office offers seasonal security tips

SPOKANE – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office would like community members to have a fun summer and remember a few tips to keep your keepsakes safe from thieves and prowlers.

The Sheriff’s Office advises boaters, hikers, walkers and runners who don’t want to carry wallets, purses, iPods and other belongings to place them in the trunk of the car before arriving at the park, lake or trail, rather than under the seat or somewhere that they may be seen.

It only takes a few short moments for thieves to break a window to break a window and gain access to a car and steal a person’s valuables. Thieves typically break into a vehicle if they can see something to steal, rather than break into them and search for something to steal.

The Sheriff’s Office also advises placing vehicle registration in the car, such as the tire well, for easy access, where it is easily accessible to the owner of the car, but not to a thief.
