Man pleads guilty to raping woman he met through church

A 20-year-old man pleaded guilty today to raping a woman he met at a church function. Adric T. Watson was charged with second-degree rape but instead pleaded guilty to third-degree rape and is expected to receive a six-month prison sentence under an agreement with attorneys. Deputy Spokane County Prosecutor Ed Hay said Watson made several advances to a 19-year-old woman he met at a Nov. 14 event organized by Lighthouse Ministries. Watson told detectives that he gave the woman sleeping pills after she repeatedly denied his advances. She realized she’d been raped when she awoke the next day. Superior Court Judge Maryann Moreno set Watson’s sentencing for July 7 at 10 a.m. If she follows the recommended six-month sentence, Watson will only have one month left to serve in prison because of time he’s already spent in jail.
