Idaho’s unemployment rate fell last month by the largest amount since 1983, propelled by a surge in hiring across most industries, the state said in a news release today. The state unemployment rate was 9.1 percent in April, down from 9.4 percent in March. Some 6,700 jobs were added statewide, the 11th straight monthly increase in the labor force, the news release said. Kootenai County’s unemployment rate was 9.9 percent in April, down from 10.1 percent in March. Unemployment rates in the rest of North Idaho were still high, although improving: Benewah County’s unemployment was 15.9 percent, down from 16.5 percent the previous month; Bonner County’s rate was 12.5 percent down from 13.6 percent in March; Boundary County unemployment was 15.2 percent down from 15.6 percent; and Shoshone County’s rate was 15.1 percent in April down from 15.2 percent in March.
