In brief: More Zags and Jags today

College basketball: Gonzaga’s second opponent of the men’s basketball season has the same nickname as the first. That’s where the similarities end.

GU entertains the IUPUI Jaguars at 1 today in a regional round matchup of the CBE Classic, less than two days after dusting the Southern Jaguars 117-72 at the McCarthey Athletic Center. Southern lost 25 games last season. IUPUI won 25 games last season.

“Their coach (Ron Hunter) has really got that program to the point where they expect to win their conference (Summit League),” GU coach Mark Few said.

“They have some great guards returning and they’re a very dangerous game, especially early in the season.”
