More rain is likely this weekend after a stubborn storm doused the region with a steady drip-drip-drip on Thursday.

A quarter inch of rain fell by Thursday afternoon in downtown Spokane, and a third of an inch fell in Deer Park.

The storm came from a low pressure system that had brought severe weather to parts of the southwestern U.S. earlier in the week.

Forecasters said they expect a break between systems today with partly sunny skies and mild temperatures in the middle 60s.

Saturday could start out fairly dry as a new storm gathers strength off the Pacific coast and gets ready to sling more rain into the Inland Northwest later on Saturday and again on Sunday afternoon.

Outdoor activities earlier on Saturday may avoid a soaking, although light showers are possible.

“Saturday’s rain looks to be light,” said forecaster Ron Miller of the National Weather Service in Spokane. “The wetter stuff would come in Saturday night.”

A break is expected early Sunday in advance of a cold front Sunday afternoon.

Highs should be in the lower 60s both days with lows in the 40s to lower 50s.

Mostly sunny weather returns on Columbus Day through Thursday, although there still might be some clouds and potential showers at times, Miller said.

Thursday’s storm was expected to dissipate overnight and drift east by this morning.
