Fire destroys Spokane Valley auto body shop

An auto body shop in Spokane Valley was destroyed in a fire Tuesday night. The blaze also burned a car inside and a motor home parked nearby. The Spokane Valley Fire Department got a call around 8:30 p.m. of a 20-foot by 25-foot building on fire at 1922 North Barker Road, said Bill Clifford, a department spokesman. A Spokane Valley man rented the shop to run his auto body business. A customer’s car parked in the shop burned, as did a motor home parked next to the building. The shop manager said he left the shop about two hours prior to the call, Clifford said. North Barker Road was closed for about 90 minutes. By 10 p.m., one lane each way had reopened. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Clifford said.
