Stuck semi truck won’t be cleared until evening

A semi truck is jammed beneath a railroad overpass on Helena Street near Trent Avenue on Monday. (Spokane police)
Spokane police this afternoon reported that a semi truck struck a railroad overpass at Helena Street south of Trent Avenue and that the accident isn’t expected to be cleared until 8 p.m. An All States Transport semi-truck was northbound on Helena Street and attempted to drive under the 11-foot-8-inch railroad trestle. The 11-foot-8-inch high truck became lodged under the railroad overpass, blocking traffic, according to a news release from the Spokane Police Department. The truck’s cargo was off-loaded, then the truck was to be pulled out from under the trestle - a maneuver police believed would break the truck in half. Train traffic also was suspended while Burlington Northern inspected the trestle. The driver of the semi will be cited for failure to obey traffic control device, a $124 ticket.
