The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department would like help from the public in its investigation of a hit-and-run accident that injured a 20-year-old woman and her horse. Lauren Johnson, 20, was injured Aug. 16 when the horse she was riding north of Hayden was hit by a pickup truck that fled the scene. Johnson and another woman were riding their horses along Garwood Road between Rimrock Road and U.S. Highway 95 around 8:45 p.m. Following the accident, Johnson was listed in fair condition in Kootenai Medical Center’s intensive care unit. A KMC spokesman said Wednesday that Johnson has been released. A previous release from the sheriff’s office said the truck is likely to have body damage on the passenger side. The vehicle was described as a dark-colored full-size pickup with a contractor’s or similar rack, a release said. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Jason Austin at (208) 446-1300.
