Area roundup: EWU’s Monterola, Lind break records

Eastern Washington University track and field athletes Kersee Lind and Keisa Monterola broke school records at the Candy Cane Invitational Saturday in Cheney.

Lind broke his record in the men’s heptathlon with a score of 5,132, eclipsing his previous record of 5,033, which he set in 2010.

Monterola broke Sarah Hegna’s school record in the pole vault, reaching a height of 13 feet, 11 ¼ inches. Hegna reached 13-4 ½ in 2007.

The EWU men’s and women’s teams beat Montana in the season-opening meet. The men won 53-36 and the women won 54-39. Next for the teams is the University of Washington Preview, Jan. 13-14.

Junior hockey

Zak Kroll scored twice and Thomas McNevin added a goal as the Spokane Braves (11-15-1-0) beat Princeton (14-11-1-1) 3-2 in a KIJHL game at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.
