Cross country: Katie Knight of North Central and Nathan Weitz of Shadle Park were named to the Adidas All-American team and selected for the U.S. Junior National Cross Country team that will compete in a meet in Scotland next month.

Mead junior Andrew Gardner was also selected but will not participate. Boise State freshman Vince Hamilton, an NC grad, also declined an invitation.

Knight (pictured), a junior, won the State 3A title in November, then finished second at the Nike Northwest Regional and third at Nike Nationals.

Weitz, a senior, was the 2010 State 3A champion and finished second to Anthony Armstrong of Kamiakin last month in Pasco. He followed that up with a runner-up finish at Footlocker West and a third-place finish at the Footlocker national championship.

Vandals part ways with Carr

College football: The shake-up of Robb Akey’s coaching staff at Idaho continues.

Akey confirmed Monday evening that Luther Carr, who served as Idaho’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator the last five seasons, has left the program. His departure – an apparent dismissal – comes on the heels of the retirement of offensive coordinator Steve Axman last week.

“I appreciate everything Luther has done for the past five seasons and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” Akey said in a statement released by UI, adding that a search for Carr’s replacement is underway.

Carr, a former Eastern Washington University receiver and Lewis and Clark High coach, oversaw a successful receiving unit in 2009 and parts of 2010. But this season, the Vandals were plagued by injuries to top wideouts Preston Davis, Armauni Johnson and Justin Veltung.

UI’s top receiver was Mike Scott, who finished with 55 catches for 691 yards.
