Roundup: Gonzaga women win Las Vegas tournament

Katelan Redmon scored 20 points and tournament Most Valuable Player Haiden Palmer added 11 as Gonzaga defeated Dayton 82-76 on Wednesday to win the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic.

GU was 2-0 at the tournament, including a 71-68 win over 13th-ranked Georgia on Monday.

All five starters for the Bulldogs (10-2) scored in double figures, but GU’s win wasn’t secure until it made 8 of 8 free throws in the final 39 seconds.

The Flyers (6-4) trailed 70-67 with 2:17 left, but Redmon hit back-to-back jumpers for a six-point edge with 1:25 left.

GU’s largest second-half lead was 12 points.

Kelly Bowen and Taelor Karr scored 14 apiece for GU. Karr hit 4 of 4 from the line in the final stretch.

Eastern Washington 76, Idaho 61: Brianne Ryan and Chene Cooper combined for 29 points and 17 assists while leading the host Eagles (6-7) past the Vandals (4-8). Chenise Pakootas added 14 points in 20 minutes for the Eagles. Alyssa Charlston led the Vandals with 14 points and 14 rebounds. EWU made a season-high 11 3-pointers.
