Whits remain perfect

Felix Friedt scored 24 points to go with 14 rebounds and David Riley scored 19 points to become only the fifth player in Whitworth history to surpass 1,500 for his career as the Pirates (20-0, 11-0) won their 35th consecutive Northwest Conference game, 89-76 over Puget Sound (8-12, 5-6) on Friday in Tacoma.

The Pirates opened a 43-30 halftime lead, shooting 50 percent from the floor, with Friedt and Michael Taylor scoring 15 points apiece.

After leading 29-26, Whitworth closed the first half on a 14-4 run.

The Pirates extended the lead quickly in the second half with an 11-0 run, giving them a 22-point lead with 15:36 remaining.

Taylor finished with 21 points for the Pirates, hitting 2 of 3 from 3-point range. For the game, the Pirates shot 54.5 percent from 3-point range and 50 percent from the floor.

Ryan Hoff led UPS with 16 points off the bench. Kaleb Shelton added 11 points and six rebounds for the Loggers.

North Idaho 74, Colorado Northwestern 59: The Cardinals (20-4, 5-4) knocked off the Spartans (5-16, 0-9) in SWAC play in Rangely, Colo.
