The Central Valley girls basketball team is too far behind to defend its Greater Spokane League championship.

The Bears aren’t too far behind, though, to make a charge toward the postseason as the second half of league play began this week.

Playing perhaps its best game of the season, Central Valley upset preseason favorite Lewis and Clark 66-57 Friday at CV.

Brooke Gallaway led CV (5-7 overall, 4-6 league) with 25 points and Katie Estey added 17. She finished with five 3-pointers, four coming in the first half. Sydney Emory added 12 points.

CV secured the win at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, making 14 of 18.

Devyn Galland led the Tigers (9-2, 8-2) with 23 points and Julia Moravec added 12.

Gonzaga Prep 72, Ferris 46: The league-leading and second-ranked Bullpups (11-1, 10-0) jumped out quick and pulled away from the visiting Saxons (2-9, 1-9).

Bullpups senior guard Tia Presley filled up the stat line, scoring 15 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, dishing out six assists and getting four steals all in 19 minutes.

Lindsay Stockton had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Hannah Murray added 11 points.

Katara Belton-Sharp led Ferris with 14 points.

North Central 55, Mt. Spokane 38: The visiting Indians (7-5, 6-4) outscored the Wildcats (4-7, 3-7) 18-3 in the decisive third quarter.

Tara Van Weerdhuizen led NC with 16 points. Hailey Markham-Patti had 12 and Riley Holsinger chipped in 11. Sammie Pederson led Mt. Spokane with 12.

Shadle Park 52, Rogers 35: The visiting Highlanders (9-3, 8-2) raced to a 28-7 lead by halftime.

Chelsea Chandler and Kaycee Hert led Shadle with 14 points apiece. Brooklynn Smith led Rogers (0-11, 0-10) with 16.

University 47, Mead 45 (OT): Hallie Gennett scored the lone basket in overtime to lift the Titans (6-6, 5-5) over the visiting Panthers (7-5, 5-5).

Mead’s Kalee Junkermier made two free throws with 7 seconds left to force overtime. Gennett led U-Hi with 13 points. Lexi Clark added 12 and Amy Thorton had 10.

Junkermier led Mead with 13 points and Taylor Ingebritsen had 12 to go with seven rebounds.
