Notebook: Air Force pilot to speak about Afghan relief efforts

Lt. Col. Olaf Holm from Fairchild Air Force Base will speak about humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan at the Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., Sunday at 4 p.m.

Holm’s talk is part of Three Cups of Tea – Spokane, a local organization promoting the work of Greg Mortenson, one of the authors of the book, “Three Cups of Tea.”

Holm is a pilot who has flown combat missions in Afghanistan who helped people suffering the effects of war and poverty through Mortenson’s group, the Central Asia Institute, and through Global Roots, a relief organization out of Portland.

Biblically based finance

The Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd., will present a series of biblically based classes, Financial Peace University.

There will be an informational meeting Sunday at 1 p.m., and classes begin Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. for 13 weeks.

The cost is $100 and includes DVDs and other materials.
